Rainy Harbor by jjpeabody Rainy Harbor by jjpeabody
I like how the lighting and water came out, but I struggled with a focus in the composition. Clearly, something should be on the rock in the foreground, but I fought with it so I eventually just gave up.

Yeah, the water is definitely great! I suppose, that something on the rock in the foreground would be too much - the eye is caught by the water and then goes to the statue in the middle - or first the statue then the water - I do not know, but sometimes less is more :) - great work!

Even though this could be anywhere, it brought 'Pirates of Dark water' to mind.

Great job in any event!

I agree that the water came out great. As for the composition, I think the problem is that the statue is a little bit too central. Its like it needs just a little shifting. Good work though.

It is both beautiful and dramatic/eerie at the same time, Sort of reminds me of a post apocalyptic New York City

I like it jjpeabody, but you should give more texture to the building in the back and maybe some more detail to the sky. I think it will look completely different, it's to much resembling and vague of grey/black colors. Also you can add some more light between the statuerock and the frontrock because the light is coming from the right and the sea is higher there than in the front. (this is my point of view). But like I said: I like it

I'm not a painter yet but soon I'll buy myself a tablet to work with. But by now I'm creating things with combination of photos (as you can see in my gallery) and there I got the feeling how to build up a creation (perspective, light, etc). And it takes time. So just go on!
